The aims of the Fashion Design Council of India are to provide a platform for Indian fashion designers with the aim of promoting Indian Fashion Wear in an International arena.

To address the changing needs of the industry as and when they evolve.

To foster growth of the Indian Fashion Industry with support from the Ministry of Textiles and other related Governmental bodies. In order to work towards its mission, the council has laid out a comprehensive plan for the forthcoming year.

Finance: Fund resource mobilization will be the primary aim. Government funding, corporate memberships etc. would be an important way of funding the council.

India Fashion Week: The council will work towards constituting a fashion week for ready-to-wear fashion.

Retail Distribution and Network: To study the present distribution/reseller network and to see how designers could benefit from this network.

Launching a website: To host a website listing the objectives of the FDCI and also create links to the web pages of individual designers.

Forecasting and Trends: Create a trend forecast forum for domestic and exports markets. This will also focus on standardizing across the industry. Management and Planning: To professionalize the prêt-a-porter (ready-to-wear) fashion industry, by having standard norms for all designer members. These could include sizing norms, accounting norms, labeling norms etc.

Awards and Scholarships: An award system or scholarship will be set up in various fashion related fields.

Association with Mills: To work closely with textile mills in India, develop fabric and educate the manufacturer on the importance of fashion designer forecasts.

Handloom Sector: To aid in the revival of the Handloom sector by undertaking developmental projects in different parts of the country.

Resource Centre: The FDCI will set up a research/ resource center that would cover the history of Indian fashion and would catalogue the collections of designer members.

Government Policies: The FDCI must liaise with the government and related Governmental Bodies on matters pertaining to excise duty, taxation systems, preferential tariffs for cargo etc.

Fashion District: The council would also like to work towards creating a Fashion district. A request the government for help in identifying an area in New Delhi for the said purpose has been sent.
