Gauri Bajoria is a graduate in Pattern Cutting Women’s Wear from the prestigious London College of Fashion. She assisted Russian duo Tata Naka during the London Fashion Week, Returning back to Kolkata shortly to start her own label ‘GAURI’ in the year 2002.
Within a year she was retailing out of all the stores in the country. A few being Kimaya, Purple Porcupine, Ogaan and 85 Lansdowne.
With ethnic techniques and western silhouettes Gauri’s collections are mostly intricate textures. With lots of layering, thread and bead work, sequins, antique zari and pleated ribbons, dyed with a painterly touch. “There is always a focal point of emphasis on the garment… giving it a very modern, chic look.” She aims her sensibilities at the contemporary young woman, with designs which are “very trendy and young but at the same time, feminine”, with a “modern twist... for all occasions”. Her Spring/ Summer 2008 collection, HIJI BIJI which she showcased at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, in 2007, comprised of pleated, light summer dresses, blouses and skirts in chiffon, georgette and fine jersey — almost fragrant with their flower-like quality.
Gauri then diversified with the exploration of textile prints “inspired by pop art and the psychedelic culture… in bright and bold colors”, keeping her target young consumer in mind...”
2004 was the year Gauri showcased her collections internationally. Mostly in London, Singapore, Hong Kong. The collections included both traditional Indian wear and Western silhouettes.
In the year 2009 Gauri started a new business venture by launching her brand “Savoir Faire”. It is a unique platform to promote established designers in the form of lavish exhibitions. The brand represents high-end couture designers who are carefully shortlisted and selected by her to exhibit at the event. Savoir Faire launched the popular international brand Salvatore Ferragamo in Kolkata along with many other established couture designers, accessory designers and jewelers from across India. To mention a few such as Varun Bahl, Shantanu & Nikhil, Gaurav Gupta, Pam Mehta, Geisha Designs by Paras & Shalini, Charu Parashar, Namrata Joshipua and Prashant Verma amongst many others.
