Kavita Bhartia launched Ogaan, one of the first stores in the country to showcase Indian designer clothing, in 1989. Ogaan has a strong tradition of promoting new designers, together with the established names in Indian fashion. Kavita Bhartia launched her own label in 2001. The Kavita Bhartia brand is known for using Indian craft skills in contemporary ways to create a fun and quirky aesthetic.
Kavita mentions her AW13 collection as “HYPERCRAFT”. The collection has derived inspiration from the artist Michael Eden who created antique forms while using digital technology. “HYPERCRAFT” uses modern technology in addition to traditional crafts. Laser cuts combine with screens print and embroideries in unusual ways.
The color palette is fresh and wearable with mist green, fiery red, warm yellows, plaster pinks, beiges, blacks, and rich off whites. The silhouettes include asymmetric dresses, low slung and pleated straight leg pants, boxy jackets, tunics with wide rib trims, slouchy sleeves, and notched hems.
