Rina Singhs roots are in rural North India, where she was raised. She got interested in textiles & sewing at a young age, within a culture of family and community craftsmanship, which continues to influence her. She has experience in researching and developing indigenous Indian textile techniques with NIFT Gandhinagar.
Rina Singh launched ekà in 2011, where she works primarily, with textile craftspeople in rural Western and Eastern India, to develop natural, sustainable fabrics in modern but enduring silhouettes. She received the Chairmans Scholarship to study fashion in the UK in 1998; A winner of Elle India Graduates in 2015, and a finalist for Vogue India Fashion Fund 2016, she also represented India for the prestigious Woolmark Prize, for the year 2016.
eka` means one in Sanskrit , it describes a one of a kind product for women, who wear their heart on their sleeves & attitude in their clothes. Our designs are singular: theyll never overwhelm the wearer, but each piece has distinctive details, in the fluid cuts and natural fabrics. The collection transcends boundaries of shape, age and race to offer universally adaptable clothing. Each piece is designed to be timeless, with a quiet, subtle femininity. The Ekà woman, unmoved by seasonal trends, is at ease with her identity, and her clothes reflect that statement.
The collections are soulful, sustainably handcrafted from traditional Indian handwoven textiles, in a contemporary, versatile style that echoes the Ekà way of living: light and unrestrictive in form, pure and organic in substance. The inspiration is authenticity in nature, people and places.
The understated palette allows explorations of fabric textures & appeals to a subtle aesthetic. The silhouettes are simple, unrestricted shapes, gently following the lines of the body in clean layers & light as air volumes.
