SHALINI JAMES, the label, is an exotic potpourri of everything Indian; in silhouettes that are sometimes ethnic, sometimes contemporary, and mostly a unique mix of both.
Shalinis signature line, Indian by choice, espouses her design philosophy. SS’ 16 saw an eclectic collage of kalamkari, mashru, bagru and other traditional textile crafts on a palette which was a riot of Indian colours in protest against western imperialism in colour names. The label is being retailed at leading multi designer outlets in all the major cities.
SS’17 is about the lesser known cotton weaves of Varanasi. Titled, ‘Jahanara’, this collection in soft cotton with hints of silk and satin promises to be a feast of pastels.
