Book features industry experience of alumni and associates of Pearl Academy

14th March 2013, New Delhi: Pearl Academy & Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) have been working towards producing one of the leading designers, not only in India but around the world. In order to take this association a step ahead, Pearl Academy launched ‘A World of Career Opportunities in Art Design Fashion’, a book on Careers in the Creative Industries entailing 30 different career options categorised under four heads – Art, Fashion, Design and Business of Fashion & Design. The book was unveiled by Mr. Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI, Mr. Nikhil Mehra, an alumnus of Pearl Academy and a renowned fashion designer and Mr. Sharad Mehra, CEO, Pearl Academy, at the 21st edition of Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week (WIFW) today at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Today’s young minds are looking for careers that will allow them to contribute creatively while being able to enhance their own lifestyle, giving them an opportunity to travel, grow, make a difference and live well. The book provides them detailed information on 30 different career options and helps them achieving their dreams.

At the launch Mr Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI said, “We should emphasize on the growing need of skilled professionals in the creative business. The possibilities are huge provided the aspiring candidates are guided well. This book is an apt guide to have an overview of the career avenues in the creative industries. It is important for the youngsters to understand the right path to make it big in the industry. I wish them the very best for the book and hope it is a great success. “

Enlightening more on the book, Mr. Sharad Mehra, CEO, Pearl Academy, said, “Attracting the best available talent to fashion industry is a great challenge. For the industry to grow and make an impact nationally new ideas and freshness of thought is a must. If we can get the right talent we can transform the fashion scene. The biggest challenge that we face in getting quality students is reluctance on the part of parents to allow their children to pursue a career in this field which is largely due to them not having enough knowledge about the industry and the varied options that are available. Often a creative career is seen as ‘frivolous and less serious’. This book is an attempt on our part to make a change here. We want to bring out the world of opportunities and open up interesting career possibilities for the hidden creative talent of this country.”

“As we did the research for the book talking to the industry, alumni and other stake holders we ourselves were amazed by the options that are available in creative fields and they are expanding at a rapid pace and the onus is on forward looking institutes like Pearl to prepare professionals for these new careers.”, added further Mr. Mehra.

The book launch witnessed other eminent fashion designers such as Mandira Wirk, Vineet Bahl, Niharika Pandey, Vaishali S., Sanya Dhir (KBSH) and Aditya Duggar among many others who commended the efforts of Pearl Academy in publishing this book.
