RASA the world of contemporary hand block prints. A craft that began in the 12th century and has been passed down through generations is now at the forefront of the Indian fashion scene. RASA was incorporated two decades ago by Madhulika and Manish, graduates of the NIFT, New Delhi in fashion and the NID, Ahmedabad in textiles. They use the traditional craft of hand block printing and have taken it to levels not seen before in this medium. Their clothing and home textiles reflect modernity with echoes of the past. Blocks are used to create patterns not always reflective of the elements contained within. The style is elegant with every detail carefully planned to achieve perfection in fit and finish.
RASA works extensively with the global design fraternity. Some of their collections can be seen at stores across the world and at several leading boutiques in India. Collaborations include those with Anthropologie, Crate and Barrel, Four Seasons, Jim Thompson, Michael Smith Inc, The Conran Shop .. to name a few. Their collections can best be seen at their flagship stores in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Mumbai and Bangalore.
At RASA, simplicity of design with the sustenance of the crafts and the environment forms an integral part of its activities. Today, RASA influences the lives of several hundred craftsmen and artisans. The workforce comprises a large majority of women, many of them having been part of the family since its inception.
All the block prints at RASA are printed by master craftsmen at their facility in Bagru. The water used here is recycled through the CETP (Central Effluent Treatment Plant), and reused under a zero liquid discharge program.
While the quest for design refinement, craft conservation, social responsibility and environment sustenance is never ending, every small step in this direction is a celebration at RASA.
