Mumbai-born and European-raised, Italian designer, Sanchita received a Bachelors degree from Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne, Paris, and Masters degree in Fashion and Technology from Domus Academy, Milan, before honing her skills at an internship with Issey Miyake in Japan. In Europe she gained extensive work and consulting experience with Romeo Gigli, Franco Moschino, Tom Ford at Gucci, Alber Elbaz at Lanvin and Alexander McQueen to name but a few.
Her passion for textiles, weaving, embroidery and artisanal skills saw her travel extensively across the globe and especially her native India, where she acquired expert knowledge in heritage techniques which are still evident throughout her collections. By returning to familiar sources which became the designers trademark, Sanchita is telling a more layered narrative, bringing in tradition and longevity to the forefront of her work.
Following her initial career in Europe, Sanchita established a consultancy business in Bangalore in the mid-90s, offering specialist “savoir faire” in textile development, embroidery, weaving, soft tailoring, wood block hand print, leather and pattern making providing its customers guidance from conception through to developing the finished garment.
2009 saw the launch of Sanchitas eponymous label of sandals and pret-a-porter womens wear within India. In December 2015 Sanchita was conferred with the honour of the Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, by the Italian President, Hon. Sergio Matterella recognising her contribution and ties with the Italian and Indian fashion industries. More recently she was invited as a key speaker at the Festival de Hyeres in April 2016 and round table organised by the Italian Trade Commission, Milan during India Fashion Week in Delhi in October 2016.
Sanchita divides her time between Bangalore, Paris, Milan and London for her own brand as well as consulting work for international luxury fashion houses.
