
Asma Hussain started working with the purpose of promoting handicrafts, handloom, art and the culture of Avadh (Uttar Pradesh) since 1992. She trained artisans learnt about their problems and hardships on the way and tried to resolve their problems of health, education, awareness and exposure to the world, thus began the journey of not just designing clothes and glamour, but designing lives of those who were left to fend for themselves in poverty and illiteracy.
She recognised their talent and hidden treasure of their nimble fingers. She is a social activist, educationist, curator, Revivalist, Promoter, writer and a designer and has trained more than 5500, majorly women since 1995 and provided livelihood to them, almost 80% of them are employed.
She is training 2000+ people mostly girls in the area of chikankari, muqaish, zardozi , tailoring and apparels, handloom weaving , handmade jewellery in Lucknow , Barabanki, Varanasi and Sitapur. Asma Hussain has revived many handicrafts such as Chikankari , Muqaish, Zardozi, Tukri work and Varanasi handlooms such as Jamdaani, Zarbaft and brocade.
