
New Delhi, 8th August 2026: The Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, in association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), presented “Dhaagon Ki Sargam”, a special textile showcase to commemorate National Handloom Day. Curated by FDCI, the showcase brought together nine leading designers, each showcasing a distinct handloom tradition and highlighting the richness and diversity of India’s textile heritage.
Participating designers included AKAARO, Amit Aggarwal, Madhu Jain, Samant Chauhan, Asha Gautam, 11.11, Payal Jain, Shruti Sancheti, and Sanjukta Dutta. Featured were AKAARO with metallic textiles, Amit Aggarwal with a Banarasi gown, Madhu Jain with Ikat, Samant Chauhan with Bhagalpur Silk, Asha Gautam with Patola, 11.11 with Indigo, Payal Jain with White-on-White craftsmanship, Shruti Sancheti with Khadi, and Sanjukta Dutta with the traditional Mekhela Chador.
Together, the showcase reflected the diversity of India’s handloom traditions and demonstrated their enduring relevance in contemporary fashion while celebrating the craftsmanship of the country’s weaving communities.
The showcase was inaugurated by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of India, and Shri Pabitra Margherita, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, Government of India. The event was attended by Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; Dr. M. Beena, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; Ms. Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; Ms. Tanu Kashyap, IAS, Director General, NIFT; Smt. Arti Kanwar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; Smt. Padmini Singla, Joint Secretary (Fibre), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India; members of the fashion fraternity; and distinguished guests.
The evening also featured a dance performance by Suhail Bhan, followed by a musical performance by Raja Kumari, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the celebration.
