Two models from two unique worlds find a meeting ground in the blitzkrieg of glamour
Life, as they say, is a study in contrast. And the world of bling, hopes, dreams, glamour is no different. On one side you have a model mother managing her two-year-old twins, but still wanting to work, even though she has cut down on travel. And on the other, you have a New York born and raised model, who is completing her course in fashion merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and modeling to gain valuable experience. Krishna Somani and Diva come from two ends of the spectrum. But the thread that binds them is love for the runway.
I had put on 40 kilos, says Krishna Somani, adding, after the birth of my twins. So it was an uphill task attempting to lose all that weight. My twins were in hospital for two months, so there was a lot of running around for me, but it was a beautiful, life changing experience. But I did work on getting back to my original shape and it required a lot of gymming. Now that my girls are two, I have started taking up work, and I accepted couture week, as for me, wearing that elaborate, intricate garment, is like flaunting art, she confesses.
Diva, has no such family constraints till now she is a free spirit, for her, India and fashion have been fun, a revelation and a chance to understand two cultures. I wasnt selected for the shows in New York because I didnt fit the height requirement. But I did meet a few Indian designers in the Big Apple who urged me to try modeling, and thats how I came to India, she says.
If for Krishna her nine year journey in modeling was a great source of self discovery, it wasnt all that her life revolved around. I am a mother, wife, daughter and sister so all those roles are equally important for me too. My husband is into finance, so I married outside the microcosm of modeling, which added to my stability. So I guess, being part of the same world means different things for different people, she confesses.
For Diva the catwalk was about instilling self-confidence. It is not just about wearing beautiful clothes and looking stunning, it is also about being comfortable in your own skin, she concludes.
