Handmade and party wear– is there such a combination? This season, Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta takes us through the journey into the making of the modern mix – let’s just say that it is a healthy mix of tradition, beauty, power, wholesome weaves and playful Swarovski’s.

This collection was almost like a tribute to the new-age party girl – one for whom life is more than just a bunch of lazy party dresses and a pot load of glitter. And so, Gupta goes ahead and creates his ultimate party girl – with a good blend of weaves and shimmer. With surface texturing, shimmered edges and subtle sheers, this collection is smooth, easy on the eyes and extremely wearable. It is definitely not an easy task – the task of mixing and matching two different worlds, the world of weave and the dazzling world of Swarovski.

But Gupta manages to once again remind us that the art is his own and he can weave it the way he wants to and create newer images, newer dimensions and minimalistic impressions. The cuts are sleek, the fabrics create newer shapes and most of all, the colours were deep and lush – royal blue, black, grey and navy blue. The collection featured textured shifts, easy kaftan-like wraps and fitted pants, paneled jackets and sheer shirts – these garments also imbibed graphic elements to create a cleaner, more powerful look. If there was ever a doubt that this collection was predictable – the doubt vanished when one saw the sheer shirt worn over fitted pants with just the right amount of Swarovski on the collars – classy! Must look for – Organza inners, Swarovski collars, mohair crystal dresses and the crystal fabric belts.
