Interior design connoisseurs will tell you the most important ingredient of décor is primarily good taste, aesthetics, lighting to set the mood, and keeping the area uncluttered. Vikram Sharma, the set designer for WIFW Autumn-Winter 2013 has ensured just this as 600 workers work tirelessly to create magnificence at Hall No. 18, Pragati Maidan for Asia’s biggest event.

With 48 (plus 8 male models) models readying to take the catwalks by storm, on a 60 feet long ramp (at the two MSAs), special security arrangements for stars walking for designers have been made as everyday a team of 60-70 bouncers will man the area. And a separate entry for Bollywood beauties will ensure they are quietly whisked away backstage!

Keeping in mind, it is a winter story, Vikram has remained true to the theme—an exposed concrete feel, grey with hints of blue. “The three prominent colours remain ivory, indigo blue and black. I’ve added splashes of grey too, but the charm lies in the rustic, old style décor, play of textures and effective use of cotton cord,” he adds.

In keeping with saving the environment, the same cotton cord that was used at WIFW spring summer show last year, which was converted into stunning chandeliers, this time, has been used to create interesting installations. The graphic design company is using the Devanagari script, and Vikram has added an edge to this, by giving it a 3-D dimension, blowing up alphabets and using it to add another element to the venue. Vikram has been working with the FDCI since the inception of the India Fashion Week and he strongly felt that the venue must reflect the theme, without making it look quirky or over-the-top.

With the right props, bright mood and ambience in place, the WIFW will give guests four lounges—The Emperor of Good Times, Wills Lifestyle and Fiama di Wills, Reserve Lounge and the FDCI Buyers lounge, for teetotalers the Twinings Tea corner will be a treat!
