Like in all things in life, a balance is what we all seek, besides of course answers to existential questions. But for model Krishna Somani, her twins seemed to be paramount, as she effortlessly floated in and out of the fittings at The Lalit hotel on a balmy Wednesday for the upcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2013 to be held at the Pragati Maidan from Oct 6-10.
But with huge help from her in-laws for her little babies, Krishna who looked in top shape was back to wow the catwalk. As she narrated her multitasking skills, being a super mom and supermodel it was the former, she admitted that gave her true satisfaction. Motherhood, she exclaimed to choreographer Rashmi Virmani, is the most difficult but joyful experience.
It was first day of fittings, and Kolkata-based Kiran Uttam Ghosh looked both exhausted and nervous about her showing as she gave finishing touches to a long tunic worn by model Bhawana Sharma. While Sharma didnt shy away from giving her valuable feedback on the kind of make-up that would suit the look and feel of the shows.
Though the dilemma that haunted Kiran remained the placement of a sparkly comb on the statuesque models low bun. It was soon resolved with a consensus that it should be sitting at the bottom, just caressing the nape of the neck.
Interestingly, where law and order was concerned, choreographer Aparna Bahls booming voice ensured that everybody was paying attention. Girls, please line up, was the oft repeated command and instructions were followed seamlessly.
Known for her eclectic designs and bohemian flavour, Poonam Bhagat came armed with a posse three helpers, and cute embroidered ballerinas and an armful of clothes that reflected her design philosophy. It is all about Central Asia with a vivacious palette, beamed Poonam.
Even though the shoes were not enough, the beautiful clothes made up for the crunch, as Poonam dexterously made adjustments to a dress that seemed to be too plunging on the sides for the petite Sapna Kumar, who ensured there were no flyways with her small bun that sat comfortable right at the top of her head.
First timer Khushi Shah, from Mumbai dressed comfortably in palm-print pyjamas, seemed most at ease during the fittings. I am a Mumbai girl, but I would any day prefer WIFW over LFW, this is a more organized and bigger event, she confided.
After a degree from Atlanta, Georgia in fashion designing, Khushi admitted that the most challenging part for her, as a greenhorn was the struggle with time. We had to get everything ready but we somehow managed. Most of my line is dominated by evening dresses in chiffons and georgettes as I am focusing on the US market, she says with a smile adding, And I know I will go home with lots of orders.
