Change is the one thing that always remains constant. No one showcases this idea better than Dev R Nil, the Bengali duo who have managed to stay on top of the tag “Made in India”, have now surfaced with a newer, more contained collection.
The pop prints gave way to a more mature assortment of ideas – withbutterfly-shaped applique on long jackets, translucent chanderi saris worn over long jackets and fish print dresses.

The transparency of the chanderi paired itself very beautifully with the stiffness of the silk jackets to create a look that’s both enticing and exhuberent. As usual, there were the typical Dev R Nil signatures – the Indian fabrics, the fuss-free shapes and minimalistic stark approach that the designers take to design. Only this time, there were more specific, more real and more Indian in every way. The fabric weave jackets made for both men and women are so easy on the body – but make quite an interesting combination when paired with subtler inners and straight pants. The graphic kantha stitch was a welcome addition as well as the pink chain-link sari that can make tiny happy ripples in your wardrobe.

The designers kept it simple too with carpet strip maxi dresses that are body-fitted and kurtas that are loosely fitted and innovative. Lastly, it was the chain-link sari, hoodie and the long wrap that stole the show – very Indian, very simple and extremely innovative. And let’s not forget the digital print maxis that made fall look like one big cocktail party.
