If a diamond necklace can be worn as a face veil, feathers added to explore grandeur, and you put the erstwhile “it” girl and hotel heiress Paris Hilton in this extraordinary mix, you will understand the Gujarati and Anglo-Indian duo of Falguni and Shane Peacock better.

Popularly known as ‘The Peacocks’, a name used often in this rather larger-than-life design community! The astute duo knows the bling ring will always be a loud one for the Indian customer. They seem to have capitalised on this innate sentiment catapulting them to one of the most expensive couturiers in the country, with a devoted clientele. And this base has now extended to the influencer market, with a flurry of feathers seen rustling on the front row, the first day of the India Couture Week, at the Taj Palace, in the capital, with Hyundai India, as the sponsor.

The opening act was given to them, after all label lover Karan Johar, the kingmaker of Bollywood has walked for them, the Punjabi heartthrob Vicky Kaushal has shot for the duo and the royal pint-sized wonder Sara Ali Khan has been their showstopper. They know how to create a halo around their offerings for sure. This year, they made their debut at the Cannes Film Festival, rather surprisingly dressing the alternate film actress Mrunal Thakur, in an ivory gown, coiling around her lithe figure replete with ruffles and their signature shine.

Swarovskis are their spoken language, and they always add a fist full of mirror work and chikankari in this concoction, the male Peacock aka Shane, in this robust team, also has a blue tint in his beard, maybe to mimic his love for his namesake from the animal world! In the past, they managed to dress Ananya Birla, the corporate royalty in a velvet suit, besides giving Ms Jonas nee Priyanka, a champagne gown for her wedding reception. We will only have to wait and see if the younger sister Parineeti Chopra soon to get hitched will also choose an avalanche of crystals or will go with subtlety, keeping her better half’s political profile in mind.

Guessing by their global popularity from J Lo, to Katy Perry and Rihanna, they know what sells and how to reach the right audience for visibility. The ICW set saw magnificent “pink toned” elephants, standing tall with imposing Greek columns in the background adding grandeur. And when you have the newly-married, waif thin Kiara Advani as the show stopper for the evening, you are not thinking about the latest fad Barbiecore, but how Bollywood is changing the game. The ultra glam star also blew kisses at us, as rose dust dressed ballerinas danced to celebrate the beginning of the season of festivities in the Hindu calendar.

Tone-on-tone and tiny pearls romanced on whispering pink sherwanis, cholis replaced by bow-shaped blouses, veils, and trails as well as fishtail lehengas were fait accompli, but the colours got quieter, maybe because everything else was so dramatic! And not to forget, feathers were omnipresent after all it’s the monsoon season.
