It was as if a constellation of stars had descended! The star power that Manish Malhotra displayed at the PCJ Couture Week on Saturday night, was impressive, with the front row glittering with the stunning Suzanne Roshan, Shabana Azmi, Karan Johar, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Sheetal Mafatlal and Fashion director Madhur Bhandarkar dressed in black, the colour of the day.
But the deal clincher was Bollywood hottie Katrina Kaif taking the ramp by storm in a midriff-baring beige gold lehenga with champagne embroidery.
Where there is Manish, a six-pack is not far behind, and this time it was the hunky Bollywood aspirant Vidyut Jamwal, doing the honours in a front open, fully embroidered tunic that he wore with gold pajymas and black tie-up shoes with a zari-encrusted heel.
With an inspiration dating back to the 60s and 70s, there were high necks, opulent zari lehengas covered with a veil of net with a trail and fully embroidered scarlet-coloured tunics for men.
Layering seems to be a haute favourite and Manish added geometric gold motifs and tasseled ends to a colour palette that had fuchsia, electric crimson, raspberry and rose to showcase his mastery and understanding of the traditional Indian wedding market. Brocade and velvet stoles, shararas and gararas got a winning applause, but he didnt forget men who like it a bit, well, classic with a modern edge, so there were tunics with Kashmiri embroidery paired with Patiala shalwars for men. As slow burning candles lit the stage, taking you on a trip back in time, Manish stuck to the conventional route and adhered to what he can do best.
