North-east – the charm, the intricacies of art and the absolute colour it throws back, no one captured the essence of it better than Jenjum. Tribal was the name of the game – predictable in its introduction but slowly, the show picked up pace – with its bright-coloured shifts and colour-blocked garments.

CM4_6175The look and mood of the ‘Tribal Collection’ by Jenjum Gadi was young, modern with a certain tribal feel. The silhouettes were simple and slightly edgy, while the colours were a mix of vibrant tribal colours along with pastel shades that gave the collection a contemporary twist.CM4_6085CM4_6362

The first outfit from the collection was a scalloped edge dress worn with a white shirt – a combination that’s not easily realized but creatively fabulous. Even the billowing sleeves on the white shirt had authentic north-east inspired embroidery that gave it a fun twist. And with that, the show began – out came the sequined shirts on men, the mix of surface embellishments that went from studs to sequins paired with amazingly cute feathered hair bands. Almost a punk princess in tribal land. The imagery is very easy on the eyes, a combination that’s both surreal and exhilarating. The bead work is intricate, colourful and exhaustive – and that’s the beauty of this collection. The geometric pencil skirts play with embellished shirts to bring a certain charm to the outfits.CM4_6302 CM4_6280

Our personal favourite was the yellow, orange and black paneled dress worn by Nethra that brought out the cultural extravaganza that is the North East. The statement necklaces are big and bold and that added the much-needed ornate touches to the collection.
