Aikeyah-
Sanskrit for Own Identity
The label brings together Indian elements to a sensibility very global in appeal, focusing on comfort and ease. The choice to work with cotton in all forms, textures and origin and moulding them in relaxed silhouettes that dont confine to any particular body shape characterize Aikeyah. It is those textures, that go into layering that bring alive the very essence of Aikeyah.
Elements that strike a sense of nostalgia, that bring out the Boheme appeal combined with rich hues boast of a very strong sensibility that is not confined to any geographical boundary. Each garment evolves over a period of time, each time its worn lending a whole new perspective to the wearer.
The label has aesthetically evolved over the last few years and works mostly on archives that have given a strong foundation to our small family.
A painter, a self- taught embroider, a traveller and a dressmaker is how I sum myself. With little formal training and a lot of self-taught know- how and no industrial training what so ever I ventured into the business, lending my aesthetics to Aikeyah.
Aikeyah is an extension of my personality. My experiences are interwoven into the designs. It gives the wearer a hint of my thought process which is subtle and simple. My designs are fluid and totally absorbed by the wearer. The name Aikeyah, therefore, is apt as it takes on the identity of those who wear them. Aikeyah takes pride in the fact that it has been consistently delivering the same sensibility promised at its inception. A lot of women the world over identify themselves with Aikeyah today. I will sum it up as an abstract, very easy on the eye, yet very thoughtful on the mind.
