Anjali Kalia is a design graduate from NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), New Delhi. Her graduate collection in 1995 was awarded the CMAI (Clothing Manufacturers Association of India) Award for the Most Creative Collection, she also a recipient of the Smirnoff Fashion Awards, 1994. Subsequently Anjali worked for two years at Walter Johnson India Pvt. Ltd. A design-based export company, followed by a stint of five years with Rohit Bal. She was also the founder designer for Maya, a label catering to the contemporary Indian women from 2003 to November 2004. Currently, Anjali is working for her own design label Divine Design, besides being a consultant to various NGOs.
Influenced and inspired by a self-motivated research in Indian aesthetics and design philosophy, Anjalis design skills have evolved to reflect India on its path of constant growth and evolution. She is sensitive towards maintaining a balance between our ethos and contemporary demands. She relates to simplicity and purity, not only in design, but also thought, word and deed. Her clothes are graceful with a subtle touch of joy and celebration. Sensuality for her is something that appeals to all senses, inspires, attracts, teases yet is full of dignity. She has been associated with the prestigious Sanskriti Kendra for the past three years, where she has been documenting old Indian textiles and also conducting a series of design development workshops for traditional craftsmen, to make their products suitable for contemporary markets. She is a member of the Crafts Council of India, and has been involved in various workshops to enhance the design potential of indigenous crafts.
