Lovely Professional University (LPU)

The School of Design (Fashion Design & Technology) at Lovely Professional University (LPU) is a prominent private design institute in India, recognized for its industry-oriented curriculum and modern infrastructure. It offers a range of programs from undergraduate to doctoral levels, emphasizing hands- on learning through studios, live projects, and international exposure.

The school offers specialized pathways in design, technology, and management, providing a comprehensive education that covers the entire fashion lifecycle from initial concept to the final consumer.

Fashion Design:

• Bachelor of Design (B.Des) – Fashion: A 4-year professional degree focused on comprehensive design thinking, garment construction, and fashion technology.

• B.Sc. Fashion Design: A 3-year undergraduate program blending artistic creativity with technical skills like CAD and textile science.

• M.Sc. Fashion Design: A postgraduate program for advanced specialization in design, technology, and merchandising.

• International Credit Transfer: Options for a “2+2” model, where students study two years at LPU and two years at a partner university abroad to earn a foreign degree.

Fashion Technology:

• Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) –The BFT is a 4-year undergraduate program specifically focused on the technical and managerial aspects of apparel production. Unlike a design-centric degree, B.F.Tech emphasizes manufacturing processes, quality control, and industrial engineering within the fashion industry

Fashion Management:

• Master of Fashion Management (MFM): The MFM at Lovely Professional University (LPU) is a 2-year postgraduate program designed to develop managerial and leadership talent specifically for the fashion, lifestyle, and retail sectors. It bridges the gap between creative design and the commercial business of fashion.

Ph.D. in Fashion:

The Doctoral program focuses on advanced research across the fashion value chain, specializing in sustainable materials, creative design, manufacturing efficiency, and global fashion management.

The School of Design at Lovely Professional University (LPU) features over 30 specialized labs and studios designed to simulate a professional industry environment for its fashion students. The school has been significantly strengthened by a ₹6.20 Crore grant from the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), a project of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Specialized Fashion & Textile Labs

These facilities provide hands-on experience in garment manufacturing and material science:

Technical Textile Research: Focusing on “indigenous development” of specialty fibres and functional fabrics used in industries like healthcare, sports, and safety.

Textile Testing Lab: Equipped with advanced scientific technology, our Textile Testing Lab allows students to analyze every facet of fabric performance. From assessing safety via limited oxygen and flammability tests to exploring construction through warp and weft knitting and microscopy, students gain hands-on experience with the industry’s most specialized machinery.

Weaving and Knitting lab:

Dyeing & Printing Lab: Dedicated to experimenting with fabric surface design, traditional dyeing, and contemporary printing methods.

Garment Construction Lab: Equipped with advanced industrial-grade machines to teach diverse stitching and assembly techniques.

Pattern Making & Draping Studios: Precise workspaces for creating and altering garment patterns and practicing draping on professional dress forms.

Fabric Library: Contains a vast collection of domestic and international textile samples for research and material selection.

Digital & Technology Infrastructure

To align with modern industry standards, the school integrates high-end digital tools:

CAD Laboratories: Features industry-standard software for digital illustration, 2D drafting, and computer-aided design.

Mac Labs: High-performance Apple workstations equipped with the Adobe Creative Suite for digital portfolio development and graphic design.

3D & Virtual Prototyping: Facilities for digital garment simulation and virtual sampling, which reduce physical waste during the design phase.

Laser Cutting Machine Lab: Provides high-precision technology for intricate fabric cuts and innovative surface manipulations.

Computerized Embroidery Machine: Equipped with 12 needle machines with industrial standard and specifications
