Manish Malhotra

Couturier, costume stylist, entrepreneur, social media influencer and revivalist. Manish Malhotra’s profile career spanning 27 years has seen him redefine fashion for an entire generation of Indians. He started his career as a model, while studying at the Elphinstone College, Mumbai. Though he did not have formal fashion design training, Manish’s love for sketching, passion for cinema and penchant for clothes, saw him veer towards costume styling.

2015 was a milestone year for Manish Malhotra as it marked 25 years of his association with Hindi cinema as a designer and stylist and 12 years since the creation of the eponymous label. Manish has showcased his collections at various International Fashion Weeks like South-Africa Fashion Week and Dubai Fashion Week. His label is synonymous with opulent, contemporary Indian wear.

Manish Malhotra tells design stories in a language profuse with elegance, ultra-femininity and unapologetic glamour. His intention has been to create glamorous ensembles with Indian traditional colours, textures, embroideries, and craftsmanship.

The design-story of the recent collections has been inspired by Manish’s consummate passion for reviving Indian craftsmanship. Be it Sozni, Resham or Tilla embroideries from Kashmir, the ethereal art of Chikankari from Mijwan, colourful Phulkari craft from Punjab and handwoven Benarasi weaves; each technique is a lesson in meticulousness and proof of the wonderful crafts and craftsmanship found in India. It’s all about celebrating the traditional crafts with a modern Indian flair.

Manish has taken up the responsible initiative to promote regional handicrafts and workmanship from rural India. One such initiative is his association with the ‘Mijwan Welfare Society’– an NGO founded by Late Kaifi Azmi and headed by Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal.
