A NIFT, New Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, NIDHI YASHA is the founder and director of the reputed and internationally acclaimed Mumbai based design house,
The NY Studio, and the owner of the ethical luxury label NIDHI YASHA, with over 15 years of experience in fashion and costume design.
Her eponymous retail label NIDHI YASHA bagged the prestigious nomination for “National Brand ” at “Luxury lifestyle awards” in Singapore in 2016, having debuted at the London Fashion Week in 2015.
In 2005, Nidhi had graduated from NIFT, New Delhi, Department of Fashion Design, with a gold medal and the award for the BEST ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE, given out by the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and bagged the first ever international placement at NIFT, in a key position in “The TMS Group, Beijing”, a multinational fashion buying house, where she spearheaded design for a network of export houses managed by their 8 offices spread across continents. Later she also worked in few extremely renowned buying houses and export houses in Delhi in key design positions traveling extensively for sampling and business development, and contributing to high value business generation.
Nidhi nurtured this dream of coming up with a 360 degree, one stop costume destination early in her career and founded The NY Studio in 2010.
The NY Studio has since been instrumental in introducing organized and qualitative design solutions for media houses, cinema, theatre and television, and for individuals, brands and corporates alike.
Having started from a few mega productions in India, and having worked on over 100 big ticket projects over the years, more recently, The NY Studio has gone on to design and manufacture costumes for international game changers like XUAN ZANG, a Wong Kar Wai and EROS co- production, also Chinas official entry into the Oscars in 2016, and ZHAOGE, a fantasy historical Chinese saga, based on the Ming dynasty.
JAL, a National Award winning, Indian origin film has been another noteworthy project for the Studio. It ran for Oscar contention in 2014 under the foreign film category.
Amid several national level awards and accolades, and many similar nominations, the studio has also exhibited its works internationally and carried out workshops/lectures on Indian costume design in collaboration with foreign universities, having made its presence felt globally. Nidhi has been felicitated by the prestigious university of Hawaii, Honolulu, in their event “Bollywood and Beyond” for her work on “The Buddha” and has been the artist in residence for 3 weeks giving out several lectures across the university. This university boasts of Ex. U.S President Barack Obama as its alumnus.
Today, Nidhi owns her own Internationally acclaimed design firm which has been in existence for nearly a decade now and is setting global standards for qualitative specialty costuming and is also home to a sustainable luxury fashion brand, retailing across Indias leading multi-designer boutiques and showrooms such as Ensemble – Mumbai, Collage – Bangalore, Bombaim – Kolkata, Maalgaadi and Montage – Chennai, and Avakasa Ahmedabad.
In India the brand is distributed via the INDE PROJECT.
In 2018, IIM- Ahmedabad enlisted her studio and label as the institutes feature project and put it up on their official website, amid other noteworthy alumni and their ventures.
The NY Studio is arguably the only, dedicatedly, 360 degree, “SPECIALTY” costume exporter from the country apart from a home to an admired ethical fashion label.
