Manish Malhotra displayed his prowess with mirrors as he juxtaposed vintage embroideries with new-age elements and sprinkled sizzle with Bollywood dreamboat Alia Bhatt

Little mirrors held together by zari threads reflected Manish Malhotras love for crafts which he interpreted in a way that the new-age bride would love, on the edges of full-flared lehengas, fitted sleeves of sherwanis or the high necklines of long tunics. Portraits, his India Couture Week 2014 line, was a homage to Gujarat, albeit in more subtle form, as Manish wanted to dress a woman who is not trapped by overt opulence and loves her conventional reds as much as her greens and ivories.
ICW this year, has been scrubbed clean of traditional pinks, as ivories and beiges have overtaken them in the race to the finish line. Manish in keeping with the philosophy of introducing lighter, airy silhouettes so that brides are not weighed down by the embroidered and embellished load of the lehenga, used tussar in its rawest form along with silk, velvet and tulle.
And where there is Manish, a Bollywood star is not very far behind, so this time, the fresh-faced Alia Bhatt took over the ramp, in her statuesque style, with almost no make-up, wearing a miniscule choli, with a crimson coloured lehenga with the new kid of the block Aditya Roy Kapoor in tow. I think Alia is the next superstar, she is hard working and understands fashion. She has been rehearsing her walk so that she gets it right, so you know she makes a big effort, says Manish.
But another reason for roping in filmmaker Mahesh Bhatts daughter was that she epitomised the young spirit that Manish hopes to mirror in his collection, which was a mix of vintage charm and current ideology.
