New Delhi, February 09, 2012: The Fashion Design Council of India today announced a special show to generate awareness for a drive against human trafficking as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. Scheduled to be showcased at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2012, FDCI will be supporting ‘YouCanFree.Us’ – a not-for-profit organisation working towards rescuing and rehabilitating women who become victims of human trafficking in India.
Twelve leading FDCI designers – Manish Arora, Suneet Varma, JJ Valaya, Tarun Tahiliani, Shantanu & Nikhil, Ashima-Leena, Ritu Beri, Ashish Soni, Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna, Hemant Lecoanet, Ravi Bajaj and Rajesh Pratap Singh – will lend their support to the cause. The designers have lined up a showcase of their creations for the event with the theme – “From Ashes to Beauty”. The show is scheduled for Friday, February 17 at 5:45 pm.
Adding to the artistic marvel will be India’s ace photographer, Subi Samuel. On display will be 12 of his masterpiece photographs documenting the transformation. The photos will be unveiled on the day of the show and will later be exhibited in India and abroad.
Announcing the association with YCFU, Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI, said, “We at FDCI, along with the designers, constantly endeavour to work towards the betterment of the society. In the past we have supported causes like breast cancer awareness, support for the girl child, campaign against child labour, awareness against drunken driving and helping autistic children. This year we are happy to lend the WIFW platform to ‘YouCanFree.Us’ in their drive against human trafficking.”
Says YouCanFree.Us founder Sujo John ‘It is heartbreaking to see the lives of women who are victims of human trafficking. When celebrated individuals from various walks of life – fashion, sport, film and society, come together to raise awareness for these atrocities, it does help tremendously, giving hope and we can begin to rewrite their stories together!’
