FDCI designers to participate at Handloom Week 2010

Ministry of Textiles and the Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms) inaugurate the National Handloom Expo

New Delhi, December 20, 2010: Blending Indian weaves into contemporary fashion, designers will come together to showcase their collections at the Handloom Week, 2010, that is slated to begin on December 21, 2010 at Dilli Haat, New Delhi. An initiative undertaken by the Ministry of Textiles and the Office of Development Commissioner Handlooms, FDCI is supporting the Handloom Week and the fashion show which depicts Indian culture, crafts and handloom that constitutes the bedrock of India’s heritage. Some FDCI designers, namely Payal Jain, Anju Modi and Rajesh Pratap Singh will showcase their exclusive range of innovative and contemporary handloom collections.

Mr. Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI said, “The Handloom Sector is the second largest provider of employment in India. I am delighted that FDCI’S designers are partnering with such an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Textiles and the Office of Development Commissioner Handlooms. We would like to encourage all our designers to take advantage of the handloom week and engage with Master Craftsmen and weavers and blend these craft traditions into contemporary designs for the domestic and international market. I would once again like to congratulate the Ministry of Textiles and the Office of Development Commissioner of Handlooms for the pioneering endeavor.’

The Fashion Show will primarily display new and modern designs in sarees and the finely tailored garments. In addition to being a unique opportunity for exhibiting the beautiful Handloom collection, the event promises to attract the attention of designers, retailers and wholesalers who are looking to source the Handloom products for the high-end market.
