National, March 21, 2022: Bringing the beauty and glory of India’s Fabric of Freedom to centre stage, Khadi India / Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) will be showcasing a Khadi Presentation curated by FDCI, as part of Sustainable Fashion Day on 24th March, at the on-ground edition of FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week. The showcase will feature khadi ensembles by several leading Indian designers and will also go on to make history as it features the first ever khadi presentation in the country by an international designer.
The show, divided into two segments, will first feature ensembles by French designer Mossi Traoré and the second segment will include collections by India’s top designers viz. Abhishek Gupta Benares, Anavila, Anju Modi, Charu Parashar and Rina Dhaka.
The first segment sees Khadi travel overseas to Paris in the hands of Mossi Traoré. Mossi’s collection is a homage to Indian savoir faire and the material Khadi. The whole harmony of the collection rests on silhouettes of architectural lines, drapes and movements in all natural/whites.
The second segment shall showcase timeless ensembles in hues of white, black and spice by Indian designers Abhishek Gupta Benaras, Anavila, Anju Modi, Charu Parashar and Rina Dhaka and pay tribute to the much textured material khadi.
Abhishek Gupta Benaras showcases a collection for men and women with a focus on fabric manipulation, cut and structure. Modern Indian collection that presents Khadi with a new twist.
Anavila’s khadi collection is a collaborative work with the weavers of Burdwan region in West Bengal. A conscious decision of using natural dyes and soft contemporary Jamdani motifs keeps the collection rooted on the cultural geo-tags of the region.
Anju Modi’s Sattvic reflects the indigenous energies & vibrations through fabric & silhouette exploration, design development along with implementing a sattvic color scheme that includes haldi, chandan & keshari. This collection is an attempt to portray the pious bond between two individuals by harmonizing their souls with nature on a spiritual level.
Charu Parashar has tirelessly worked towards a pre wedding line “The Khadi Bride”, created in khadi silk merged with spice colour prints and handcrafted each garment by master craftsmen.
Rina Dhaka’s collection is all about the gypsy that’s in each of us and the ever-evolving nature of life. The silhouettes are breezy in eco-friendly fabrics making it lightweight and skin friendly.
Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman KVIC added, “Khadi has always been an instrument of social change and has transformed into a tool of resilience, resurgence, and self-reliance in modern times. From being a humble attire across India, Khadi has evolved into a symbol of sustainable fashion and ultimate luxury. Joining hands with FDCI for this exclusive presentation will help cut across geographies and reach global audiences and entice younger generations towards Khadi with clothing that is comfortable, easy to wear and trendy.”
Sunil Sethi, Chairman FDCI commented, “It is an honor to collaborate with KVIC and curate a Khadi presentation, as we celebrate sustainable fashion at FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week. With this showcase, we aim to bring to the fore Khadi’s true potential and catapult it in the global arena. We are proud to have renowned Indian designers as well as an international designer to showcase their unique interpretation that is poised to take the sustainable lifestyle conversation to a larger audience.”
