Gaurav Gupta used them in shoes, Pia Pauro in her outfits and Elisha Wadhwani utilised them in her embellishments. Screaming neon colours are no more restricted to advertising signs, theyve been jazzed up to walk straight inside your closet.
A quick strut across the exhibition area at WIFW SS 2013 establishes clearly that the coming spring-summer is not about wearing white and blending in the crowd. If youre with it, youve got to be seen in candy pinks, fluorescent greens, neon yellows and any colour that reminds you of the ice lollies weve grown up eating outside school. This trend isnt for the faint hearted, its for those who like to tell the world theyve arrived.
Pia Pauro whos been using neon even before they started being a trend says, I do a lot of resort wear. When you are sun-kissed, your skin is tanned, its the strong colours that make your skin stand out. Neon colours help in that and also complement my label which is all about being sexy, flirty and happy!
If the thought of wearing a neon green dress makes you nervous, there are other ways to incorporate the trend in your wardrobe. As Gaurav Gupta effectively conveyed in his show, accessories in psychedelic neon are clear eye-catchers.
You could also use hints of these pop out colours to highlight something more subtle. Designer Elisha Wadhwani says, Neon is a very volatile element. It is important to use such colours in a delicate way. Since I personally dont see myself wearing something that completely screams out in neon, Ive used these colours only in my embellishments, to highlight the earthy, base colours of my collection.
While the trend seems here to say, heres a word of advice to wear the trend right. Both Pia and Elisha say that when wearing a neon outfit, be very careful with overdoing your accessories. Just let the colour you are wearing do the talking and keep everything else simple.
