Subtle, elegant and sophisticated are three words that best describe the jewel of Kolkata, Anamika Khanna. Anamikas tryst with design and style began with the Damania Fashion Award in 1995 which jumpstarted her career, and saw the beginning of the label Anamika Khanna.
With craft and texture as her forte, Couture is what she finds most challenging. And within those parameters she hopes to include indigenous techniques for a global stylish woman.
Anamika has won laurels all through her career. She was nominated at the MTV Youth Icon Awards 2003 as the Breakthrough Designer of the Year, at the MTV Lycra Style Awards 2004 as the Designer of the Year, at the F Awards as the Designer of the Year (Women Prêt), 2004 and received a nomination at the MTV Style Awards 2005 for the Designer Of The Year. She was also featured in the Elle 50 Style Icons of the Year, 2006 and in the Verve Power Issue 2006.
A veteran of many prestigious shows, her showing at London Fashion Week in 2005 received overwhelming reviews. This was followed by en exclusive contract with British major, Harrods and coverage in magazines like Glamour (Paris), Vogue (UK) and Vogue Best Buy. Her collection at the India Couture Week 2008 received critical acclaim, being hailed as “one of the best collections seen on the ramp”. She was also a part of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Grand Finale AW 08 edition. The year 2007 came with an invitation to showcase the brand at the Paris Fashion Week, a rare honour for any Indian designer.
