Ashish Soni launched his label in 1991, followed by his own independent design studio Ikos Designs in 1993. Ashishs history is full of firsts. In the same year, he became the first Indian designer to hold a solo showing in Delhi, he was also the first designer to be officially invited to hold a runway show at Olympus fashion week, New York and, he was also one of the first Indian designers to retail through the prestigious Selfridges department store in the UK .
Over the last 25 years, his work and his experimentation with fabrics, infusing them with unusual textures and treatments have won him many accolades and given him once in a lifetime oppurtunities like conceiving embroideries for the legendary House of Francois Lasage in Paris aswell as being chosen by the Government of India to present an exclusive collection to commemorate the Millennium celebrations of Khajuraho in year 2000.
At his debut show in Olympus fashion week, New York, September 2005, he was hailed as “one of New Yorks new discoveries” by International Herald Tribunes Suzy Menkes.
Ashish Soni has since then not only taken his label from strength to strength but also served as the Chief Design Officer, for an international luxury brand Vanessa G which was launched in London in 2011.
Ashish is known for his sharply refined and deceptively simple sense of aesthetics
His signature lines are characterized by extreme simplicity, flawless lines, immaculate cuts and a perfect finish. His panache and originality, his intuitive and original sense of style, combine with impeccable garment construction to create stunningly simple yet dramatic garments. Immaculate tailoring & attention to detail derived from a menswear background remains the brands forte. With design as his primary focus, embellishments are subsidiary and used with great restraint to highlight form. The balance between mind and eye, skill, innovation and sense of drama translates into timeless and distinctive garments for men and women of our times.
Looking back to the 25 years of Ashish N Soni, and looking forward to the next innings for the brand, the Spring/Summer 2017 for Amazon India Fashion Week is a menswear only collection that focuses on a subdued color palette.
With the collection predominantly in shades of black & white – keeping a largely monochrome look – grey is also one of the key shades that features in the collection. In keeping with the designers minimalistic aesthetic, these colors form the perfect background for the experimental silhouettes that pave the way forward.
Volume trousers with wider leg shape, and longer length that gives the appearance of gathered folds at the hem is one of the focal looks in the collection. Layered looks for Summer is another trend that will be of focus, Textured Surfaces and jacquards offer more detailing and dimensions to an otherwise minimalistic collection.
