Gaurav Gupta

An alumnus of Central Saint Martins, London and the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi, Gaurav’s work began receiving early recognition as he completed his studies in Womenswear Design at NIFT and his graduating collection was awarded with honours at the Makuhari Grandprix in Japan (2000) and Admirality Needle in Russia (2000).

Gaurav Gupta is swiftly gaining recognition for being the youngest couturier in the country, especially on account of his interpretation of the traditional saree and lehnga and juxtaposing contradictory elements of structure and flow. While draping and playing with the motion of fabric has been signature style, it is the anatomical study of the female form that has made Gaurav’s designs garner global media attention. Gaurav has previously found appreciation through accolades in Rome, Japan, Russia and was recently featured in a British documentary screened at the 2012 Olympics, as part of the ‘Fashion is Great’ campaign.

Luminescence is what lies behind every garment of this collection – it is the light behind, over and within every process of creation that fascinates Gaurav for this story.

The collection will witness more slender silhouettes in gowns and derivatives of the saree and lehnga. Colours remain iridescent in the families of black, gold, white and teal. Fabric being used is soft mesh, satin, georgette and lace.
