Gaurav Gupta is Indias youngest couturier. He is a pioneer in bringing the elements of fantasy, flight, mythology to Indian traditional wear. His work has changed the landscape of the Indian couture dramatically, most recently taking it to the red carpet. Through his journey, he has and continues to be guided by the imagery of flight; this theme literally and metaphorically drapes through his diverse ready to wear, bridal and jewellery collections. In the fashion press, Gupta has been celebrated as a grunge designer, and someone who brings magic realism to fashion.n nBorn in Delhi in 1979, Gaurav Gupta received his education in design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology and then graduated from Londons Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. His graduating collection led to working with Hussein Chalayan and he was called the Future of Couture. Gupta moved back to India in November 2004 and began working under his own label. Gupta became synonymous with the word edgy.n nGaurav Gupta has two flagship stores in premier luxury locations: the first, which opened in 2009 is in New Delhis Emporio mall, and the second in Mumbais hip, Kala Ghoda district which was unveiled in November 2014. Gupta has been closely involved in designing these stores, which house his trademark concepts of flight, fantasy and movement. His New Delhi store was nominated for the INSIDE World Architecture Awards as one of the best designed retail spaces. n nGaurav recently closed a Fashion event Winter/Festive 2015 with a Grand Finale Show in Mumbai in August 2015.n nGaurav created a line in conjunction with 7 For All Mankind comprising embellished denim jackets and trousers with metallic chains and embroidery, to be retailed through their stores globally. With Swarovski, Gaurav partnered to produce a collection of couture and dramatic jewellery now stocked at their concept stores worldwide.n nGupta lives in New Delhi in a spacious home with a sunny garden. In his personal time, he loves watching the movies of Alfred Hitchcock, dancing into the wee hours of the morning, and doing yoga.
