Techniques and Inspirations Cyanotype

In this collection – we have used the process of Cyanotype Printing –  a photographic process that produces a cyan blue print. The English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel discovered the procedure in 1842 and used it as means of reproducing notes and diagrams, as in blueprints. We built a little “darkroom” in our factory, where we create beautiful cyanotype prints on our linen fabrics. We are simply so excited with the results!

Vintage Victorian

Cyanotype photography was popular in Victorian England – our inspiration for our silhouettes and cuts –   décolleté styles, engageantes or false sleeves, petticoats, Juliette & Gigot sleeves, dresses & frock coats.

Chints

We are obsessed with Chintz designs that originated in Golconda (present day Hyderabad, India) in the 16th century where the cloth is printed with designs featuring flowers and other patterns in different colours, typically on a light, plain background. The motifs we have chosen are English tea roses, candelabrum, wrought iron gates, a comfortable armchair, a little girl on a swing in her garden, love letters, butterflies…. a tumble of memories!

Crochet Laces

“I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature” said Coco Chanel, and we think so too! We just can’t seem to get enough! We have layered them on hems and sleeves, used them to frame our prints and designs. Feminine, graceful, elegant – they prettily tie up this whole collection.
