The installations are an ode to craftsmanship and nature, and taking cue from the same, the entire collection is organic. The colours are inspired by birds like the pigeon and the peacock with shades of blues, greens, blacks, greys, reds, whites and beige taking the lead with the accents in pink and saffron. The fabric used is handcrafted, wherein the fabric itself has been crafted of doris or cords. It has been woven tightly to create a mesh at places while at others it has been left loosely looped to create textures thereby accentuating the play of light and shadow.
Madras silk, Banarasi Kheem Khab, Net and Chiffon have been used to create the effect. The cuts, surface ornamentation and texturing is soft, elegant and graded.
The mix of surface texturing and embellishment create a mélange of textures which will come alive in these pieces. What makes the design distinctly Monapali is the unconventional mix of mediums: textures, textiles, and embroidery.
