Monisha Jaising

Monisha Jaising studied fashion design at The American College for Applied Arts and then The Royal College of Arts, London. Her clothing is marked by the duality of her personality; beautifully cut garments are highlighted by exquisitely drawn prints and embroidery. She follows a colour palette meant for the young and sexy modern woman by using a mélange of hues ranging from frosted orange, pale blue, grey, wine, beige, turquoise and white and then moves on to luxurious navy, dull red, blues and light browns. Her command over the play with colours is natural and easy, sophisticated and sensual. Wool embroidery, silver work, velvet appliqué, foil printing and metallic hand embroidery forms the embellishment along with Swarovski, shells and pearls which enliven the look. Known as the princess of “bohemian luxe”, she creates a collection that’s alive, femininely seductive, with an interesting blend of Western and Eastern elements.

Monisha Jaising is passionate about surrounding herself with creative people and an inspiring environment. Bandra was an obvious destination. “I live here. Bandra has a growing population of young, stylish shoppers,” she says, standing in the patio of the sprawling store that sits quietly on the winding hill that’s one of Bandra’s hippest addresses. She worked with architect Sameep Padora on the design of her flagship store. The open expanse and mirror finish stainless steel walls allow you to enjoy the illusory world of style as well as painted black walls, which bring alive the garments on display. The store is like a treasure island. You don’t see everything at once. Instead, you work your way through, taking your time, discovering things slowly.

The Bridal collection features elegant silhouettes softly sculpted silks, luxurious velvet & French lace, with intricately beaded bodices along with “Handsome Prince” sherwanis teamed with leggings, which glitter like jewels exuding old-world glamour with a hint of effortless bohemian beauty.

The evening wear is sexy and strong but with a feminine quality to it including lingerie inspired gowns & body-hugging floor-length gowns adorned with crystals.
