Samant Chauhan – THE SOCIAL LIFE OF A CLOTH

“Land of Turks” , (refers to the general area that now comprises the five countnes of Central Asia) . With fluid boundaries of nomadic tribes, mass migrations and

invasion Fabric has its own story to tell. From Fiber to yarn to weaving to dyeing and then…The social life of fabric. How different people, artists, communities, religion work on fabric and associate fabric to different states of mind.

A story like this from Central Asia taste, where women were skilled at sewing and embroidery.  They were expected to produce their own household decoration and garments to help furnish new homes for younger family members. Patchworks, top stitch – Ikat, beautiful prints, quilting, crochet were often done together sitting and children playing around.

Interestingly croquet and patch work hanging were made and put on doors and window so evil spirits become tangled up in the joined patches of crochet fabric.and could not penetrate into the home or touch child. As a part of tradition bride and groom clothing were stitched together with a long knot-free thread to signify the longevity and an untroubled marriage.

It is impossible to separate a fabric to it’s story. Every fabric has a story to it, one of it’s own and one of a kind. Our approach to this collection is to make sure that these stories are being heard and seen, Showcasing modernised Indian clothing with a touch of tradition, we’ll be using a story of prints, a story of embroideries, a story of weaves, to sum it up – a story of everything textile.

Our colour palatte consists of thee colours. OFF WHITE. YELLOW and RED, where off white signifies goodness, Spirituality and sacredness; Yellow signifies happiness, warmth and sunshine; and red signifies life, love and culture

In conclusion, we are looking forward to narrate OUR story of a fabric.
