Amazon India Couture Week is the preferred fashion platform for the country’s leading couturiers. Each season the roster features the biggest names in the business, but the line up always has something new and exciting to offer.
When it comes to happy surprises, one has absolutely no intention of playing spoilsport. Letting the cat out of the bag would be far too simple an affair, a teaser however, just helps build anticipation and curiosity. Keeping that in mind, here’s a round up what’s in store at AICW 2015.
Offsite shows always build up mystery and drama. Monumental sets, breathtaking backdrops and one of a kind motifs celebrate a designer’s collection. The entire show comes together in an ethereal and sublime setting that leaves a lasting impression. Much to one’s delight this season has not one but three offsite shows. Designer’s Varun Bahl, Rohit Bal and Manish Malhotra have all picked exclusive locales for their couture offering. One will have to wait and watch to see if these shows will be held under starlight or in grand sets.
Last season Rohit Bal had a private preview of his couture collection for friends and the media, and this year it’s designer Anju Modi’s turn to mix things up. Modi is known for her bespoke traditional creations inspired by the indigenous textiles across regions of India. Her signature ethnic style has resulted in her designing costume for period Bollywood films like Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
The latest addition to the creme de la creme of Indian couture is designer Rahul Mishra. The award winning designer makes his debut at Amazon India Couture Week on Thursday. Mishra’s name features amongst the 50 most Influential Young Indians and is known in the industry for his creative prowess, exemplary technique and ability to integrate India’s rich heritage with contemporary style. In his forthcoming collection the ‘Tree of Life’ Rahul Mishra will bear testimony to his commitment of working with handlooms and will explore a stronger Indian identity.
While being one of the leaders in crystal components, Preciosa is also the new crystal in couture fashion. The Queen of Pop, Madonna introduced the brand to the American fashion world with Preciosa crystals at her music video launch Livin for Love and the brand also collaborated with Manish Arora for his Autumn-Winter 2015 collection showcased at Paris Fashion Week. The brands worldwide tie-ups with leading designers has resulted in collections shown at New York, Paris and Sao Paulo fashion weeks. It makes it’s debut on the Indian runway with its association with designers Rimple & Harpreet Narula.
Another debut at AICW is Kolkata based designer Debarun Mukherjee who was trained in the London College of Fashion. The designer in association with Indian wear label ‘Heroine’ will showcase his festive 2015 collection, which is a modern interpretation of Bollywood fashion over the decades. This Bollywood inspired show promises to be a whole lot of fun.
