The audience always waits for the coveted Abraham & Thakore show to show innovation and inspiration in design and this season too, we waited with bated breath for them. The designer duo once again decided to keep it simple and inventive with modern silhouettes, silk dresses and fitted pants.
The collection had strong separates inspired by traditional clothing silhouettes. Dresses and coats, tunics and trousers, all the basic building blocks for a modern urban Indian woman’s wardrobe were showcased. The monochromatic looks were very intuitive, and they were often disrupted by deep maroons, saffrons and greys. The new idea that this collection showcased was the kutch-led silhouettes, fabrics and colours. And so silk and tussar played with embroideries and traditional mirror work, even tie-dye was part of this collection.
The cropped blouse, gujarati style worn with a sari was our personal favourite, the mirror-work sari with a transparent wrap worked wonders for the silhouette too. It is probably the way in which these designers weave textiles and craft into modern Indian ensembles that keeps the collection innovative.
The gregariousness of Indian fabrics is dissolved and a new idea falls through a rather simple one that keeps elegance alive. There is very little embroidery that one speaks of here yet the duo try to catch your attention with drapes and separates that bring sophistication and grace to the amalgamation. We loved the silk blouses, the linear kurtas, the choli-inspired backs and the duster coats each of them creating a personality that is charming and chic, almost modish.
