Get set to be wowed by subtle elegance as the PCJ Delhi Couture Week décor exudes timeless sophistication

When set designer and décor expert Vikram Sharma started working on the PCJ Delhi Couture Week, he knew it had to be classy, keeping in mind the high fashion it was catering to. And what he did come up with was a fitting theme-black and gold. “We have taken references from fashion, techniques and fabrics that top designers use while designing a collection and incorporated them in our theme. Like the ruching that they use in gowns or the extensive play of fabrics like silk jacquards and velvet is all effectively woven in the decor,” he explains.

And the result was spectacular, the Taj Palace hotel, with its existing premier décor has got an additional dose of unadulterated glitz with gold detailing on the ceiling, wall mounts with dazzling chandeliers and ruched velvet curtains. “The venue is anyway so elegant that all we needed was just a few distinct touches. Because it is couture it can’t be jarring or gaudy, so we played the subtle card. So you will see one wall, for example is 140 feet tall and it is covered up so beautifully that it exudes a timeless charm. We have added screens for light fixtures so that it gives a classic feel,” he confides.

Working on his fourth Couture Week, Vikram was clear it shouldn’t resemble a wedding décor, rather it must be pure in design. “We started conceptualizing it two months ago, and then slowly and gradually the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. It took us two weeks, and the help of several workmen to get the show on the road,” he concludes
