Hemant and Nandita take a walk on the wild side.

She has two boys and always wanted a daughter, this unfulfilled aspiration found a vent when she launched a mom and daughter line, which has made its way to Neiman Marcus. This is also an exciting time for Hemant and Nandita, who are also gearing up for the autumn-winter 2016 showing, where this time they take a walk on the wild side.

“We had actually taken a trip to the mountains and that experience is encapsulated in ‘A Dark Enchantress’, a collection that is an extension of our Paris line, which aims to explore the unexplored,” she says.

The sun shining between the leaves, shows in the subtle usage of gold, a recurring leitmotif in their offerings, as they use mostly jacquard and home furnishing fabrics which are thicker and portray the strong woman they are attempting to dress, this season.

Layering remains their focus, as this year they pay a tribute to bomber jackets which come in various avatars, from cropped, loose fit, sporty to calf length. “You can just throw it on what you are wearing. Jackets and coats are an integral part of our collection, but we have added small touches with dabka, goldzari and appliqué on to the laces and jacquard,” she adds.

The collection includes divided skirts, Boho tops and coats, lots of them. The latter come with an easier and more voluminous fit, which sometimes are armed with drooping shoulders, making it one size fit all.

Doing two labels in a year (Rococo Sand which is only for the international market and Hemant & Nandita, which remains Indian in its aesthetic) and for the first time the duo will foray into resort wear, with a show in Miami. “Doing eight lines in a year can be tiring, but we are now selling at Intermix too so these tiny motivations go a long way in keeping your enthusiasm intact,” she concludes.
