Kazakhstan-born Olivia had a decision to make when she was offered work by two agencies—one in New Delhi and the other one in Tokyo. “I had heard of how unsafe Delhi was, but I was charmed by the cultural diaspora here as well as the unadulterated flavours that it offered so she opted for the latter,” says Olivia, 22, who is currently completing her masters in law from Moscow University. “My grandfather was a lawyer, and he was the one who motivated me to take up this profession,” she smiles.

But she admits that it was her interest in history that prompted her to take up law as a subject. “I knew about India as I had read about it in travel books. Also the famous monuments like the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar were pieces of history that she wanted to experience first-hand. Plus, I fell in love with the name of my agency Strawberry Fox, which helped me seal the deal to come here,” she laughs.

Modelling for the last five years, Olivia, has lived for a long time in Hong Kong and also participated in the Milan Fashion Week.  Being a model comes with its share of failures and rejections, something which Olivia learnt to deal with, with equanimity. “I have travelled all over the world and modelling teaches you patience and how to negotiate with girls from different nationalities,” she adds.

An admirer of Rohit Bal, Ashish Soni and Ritu Beri, Olivia loves being a runway model, and likes the thousands of eyes that look at you while you are under the spotlight. “I am here for a couple of months, and I hope that apart from Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar which I have visited, I get to see many more cities,” she concludes.
