Two first timers, Sanjeet and Arjun, get set for the AIFW Aut-Winter 2016 as an economics graduate and across the border boy compete for the spotlight.

You wouldn’t expect an Economics graduate from the prestigious Hansraj College to be walking the ramp. But some career paths are riddled with curvy twist and turns and this is just what happened to six feet three inches tall Sanjeet Singh, who from playing badminton at the national level turned his gaze on to being a supermodel.

Though he is honest enough to say that he got selected at an awards’ function because “people thought I looked like Kunal Kapoor”. Beneath this humour is a sharp mind that is enjoying the moment but planning for the future. “My dad and mom are very supportive, about me taking up modelling. But I do know that it has a shelf life, so I will think of doing something in this field after I have given it my all for three years. I plan to participate in international competitions also where I can try my luck,” he smiles.

The most fun part about modelling for Sanjeet remains the fact he gets to meet new people and travel the world. Though what prompted Sanjeet to take up fashion was also his interest in photography when he used to capture people on the street as well as cover the college MUNs (Model United Nations) where he chronicled all the sessions every year through interesting images. “I bought as DSLR and the amazing thing is that people like to be photographed,” he grins. It was this love for visuals that made him a fan of Rohit Bal and Sabyasachi Mukherjee. “Though I love what Moschino is doing with fashion now,” he adds.

With going with the flow being his mantra, Sanjeet says, he can’t predict the future, but he is happy that his parents and elder sister encourage him all the way! “My dad won’t show his happiness, but he sends my pictures on a what’s app group to his friends, so I do know he is happy with my success,” says 21-year-old Sanjeet.

While Sanjeet had the privilege of education and well-to-do Delhi-based parents, Arjun Lamba came from Nepal watching his hero Arjun Rampal as a Class 9 student on TV. He came to Delhi to complete his education from Delhi University where he is finishing his BCA. “I think what sets you apart in the modelling world is your personality as everyone has height and good looks. But what you need is to be able to carry the crowd with you,” he says.

Thanking Varun Bahl for giving him a break, Arjun like many other hopefuls will be a first timer at the AIFW Aut-winter 2016.
